Tashichho Dzong
Tashichho Dzong, or Fortress of Glorious Religion, is both a Buddhist monastery and a fortress in the capital city of Thimpu. This magnificent castle’s most recent restoration was finished in 1969, but the fortress itself dates back to around 1772 when a fire destroyed the original Tashichö Dzong (which was itself over 500 years old at that point).
The fortress serves as the seat of Bhatan’s government, housing the king’s residents and offices, as well as the offices of certain ministries of the Bhutanese government. This combined with its beautiful architecture makes it an important geopolitical location, cultural site, and tourist attraction.
Trongsa Dzong
