Laos remains largely unspoiled by modern demands, with its charm rooted in the peaceful way of life, lush landscapes, and deep cultural traditions that have been preserved for centuries.

This magical country, known for its vibrant, lush surroundings, offers some of the best motorcycle touring experiences you can find. Ride through charming villages, discover exotic cultures, interact with warm-hearted locals, and take in spectacular scenery—all while enjoying mostly good tarmac roads.

Important Note: This tour is designed for experienced riders only. A visa on arrival is available for Laos (approximately 1,200 THB visa fee), making it easy to cross into the country.

We run this tour only once a month, and spots are limited—only 10 riders per tour to ensure a safe, friendly, and personalized experience. Places fill up quickly, so we recommend booking early.

DEPARTURE TIME

The tour will start at 8.30 am. Please be informed, that you arrived at least one day before the tour started in Chiang Mai. We recommend two days before the tour starts to acclimate and avoid jet lag.

RETURN TIME

The tour will finish about 4-5 pm back in Chiang Mai, so if you would like to fly back the same day to Bangkok or the beach, you can easily catch any flight from Chiang Mai after 6 pm.

Day 1. Chiang Mai – Phayao - Chiang Rai - Chiang Khong (342 km)

Start your adventure by familiarizing yourself with the bike as we head north from Chiang Mai. The ride will take us along a winding mountain road, passing through the Mae Kachan Hot Spring and Than Tong Waterfall—perfect spots to stretch and enjoy the scenery.
Continue your journey along the legendary R120, a true biker’s paradise, as we make our way to the hidden gem of Phayao. Discover Phayao Lake (Kwan Phayao), one of the largest lakes in Thailand, surrounded by scenic farming landscapes.
After soaking in the views, we’ll cruise towards Chiang Rai, where we’ll visit the world-famous White Temple (Wat Rong Khun)—one of the top 10 wonder temples in the world. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant before heading out on back roads, passing beautiful rice fields on our way to Chiang Khong, the gateway to China.
Relax at our beautiful riverside accommodation, located directly on the Mekong River, the 10th longest river in the world.

Day 2. Chiang Khong - Huay Xai – Luang Namtha - Oudomxai (295 km)

We’ll start a bit earlier today as we cross the border into Laos via the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge over the Mekong River. The crossing will take about two hours, with all necessary documents ready, including motorcycle and service vehicle registration, customs, and insurance papers. Visa on arrival is available for Laos (approximately 1,200 THB visa fee), making it easy to enter.
Take some time to explore the border area and maybe do some shopping at the Duty-Free. It’s also a good opportunity to get familiar with riding on the right side of the road.
Afterward, we’ll enjoy a tasty lunch at a local restaurant in Luang Namtha before continuing our journey along the winding roads of northern Laos. We’ll make our way to the hidden gem of Oudomxai, where we’ll relax at beautiful accommodation in the heart of this authentic Laos highland town.
Overnight in this peaceful, remote location, offering a true taste of Laos’ untouched charm.

Day 3. Oudomxay - Luang Prabang (195 km)

Today’s ride is a leisurely transfer to Luang Prabang. After breakfast, we’ll cruise along the impressive mountainous roads towards Pakmong, taking in the stunning views of Laos’ highest mountains on a newly paved road.
An optional stop at the world-famous Kuang Si Waterfall is highly recommended. These breathtaking falls begin in shallow pools high up the mountain, with water flowing downstream into several turquoise blue pools, creating a natural wonder.
Relax and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing your journey towards Luang Prabang. Upon arrival, you can unwind at your charming riverside accommodation, nestled in the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage city.

Day 4. Rest Day in Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is a city gleaming with intricate temple roofs, fading colonial architecture, and a breathtaking mountain backdrop. Recognized by UNESCO as “the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia,” it’s a place where history and culture come alive.
Today is a leisure day, giving you the opportunity to explore at your own pace. You can visit the former Royal Palace, now a national museum, or explore the Wat Xieng Thong temple, one of Luang Prabang’s most important cultural landmarks.
No visit to Luang Prabang would be complete without climbing the 329 steps to the top of Mount Phousi, where you can enjoy a stunning sunset view overlooking the Mekong River and take in a 360-degree view of the entire city.

Day 5. Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng (232 km)

After breakfast, we’ll leave Luang Prabang for an exhilarating day of adventure riding through a stunning limestone karst landscape. As we travel, the roads begin to deteriorate, but the breathtaking mountain scenery makes for an exciting and challenging ride.
Enjoy a well-deserved lunch at a local restaurant, perched at the peak of a mountain offering spectacular views.
Continue riding through impressive mountainous roads as we make our way to Vang Vieng. After crossing the river, we’ll arrive in Ban Huai Ngai, a charming village that offers a glimpse into the traditional local lifestyle.
Finally, relax and unwind at your peaceful accommodation, nestled in this beautiful and serene setting.

Day 6. Vang Vieng - Vientiane (194 km)

After breakfast, we’ll leave Vang Vieng and head towards the capital city of Vientiane. Enjoy the ride along fantastic mountainous roads, taking in the stunning views as we make our way to the Nam Ngum Dam, the largest dam in Laos. Its deep blue waters resemble those of the ocean, offering a mesmerizing sight.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant by the dam, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Afterward, we’ll continue cruising along the highway through rural farming areas before arriving in Vientiane. Once in the capital, we’ll visit the Patuxai Monument, often called the Arc de Triomphe of Vientiane, before heading to Pha That Luang, the oldest pagoda in Laos. Originally built as a Hindu temple in the 3rd century, it’s an iconic symbol of Laos.
Finally, we’ll arrive at our charming accommodation in Vientiane, where you can relax after a day of exploration.

Day 7. Vientiane - Chiang Khan (225 km)

After breakfast, we’ll leave Vientiane and cross the border back into Thailand. Remember to adjust to riding on the left side of the road once again as we head south.
We’ll cruise along the scenic Mekong River Road (R211), making our way to Mount Pha Tak Suea, a beautiful spot to take in the surrounding landscape. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, offering a taste of authentic regional cuisine.
Continuing along the Mekong River Road, we’ll arrive at your charming homestay accommodation in Chiang Khan, a traditional Thai village located directly on the banks of the Mekong River. The town is known for its lovely old wooden houses, colonial-style shops, guesthouses, and restaurants.
In Chiang Khan, you’ll enjoy a delicious local dinner at a riverside restaurant. After dinner, take a leisurely stroll through the Walking Street Market, where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of this vibrant, traditional market

Day 8. Chiang Khan – Uttaradit (272 km)

An early start today as you’ll have the unique opportunity to offer rice and food to the monks as they pass through Chiang Khan in the early morning hours.
After breakfast, we’ll head out on winding mountain roads towards the Sky Walk in Phuk Kngio for stunning panoramic views. Then, prepare for an exciting ride as we cross through four national parks in just one day, traveling on some of the best mountain roads in Thailand.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, offering a taste of regional cuisine. Afterward, we’ll stop for a coffee break at a café located in Laos—without the need for border crossing, as this café is only accessible from the Thai side.
As we continue our ride, we’ll pass through seemingly endless rice fields before reaching Uttaradit, a hidden gem in Northern Thailand. This small town near Lampang and Denchai is largely undiscovered by tourists, offering a chance to experience authentic Thailand in a peaceful and charming setting.
In the evening, unwind and relax at your beautiful hotel in Uttaradit, soaking in the tranquility of this untouched destination.

Day 9. Uttaridit – Sukhothai (89 km.)

After breakfast, we leave Uttaradit riding again on backroads and passing through massive rice fields until we reach Sukhothai. A short day of riding gives us plenty of time to discover one of the highlights of this amazing motorcycle tour: the Ancient Sukhothai Historical Park, designated World Heritage site number 574 on 12 December 1991 by UNESCO, and enjoy the amazing sunset in the old ruins. A magical and memorable scene. Later you arrive at the guest house, where you enjoy the charming classic wooden Thai accommodation with a swimming pool.

Day 10. Sukhothai – Lampang - Chiang Mai (343 km.)

After breakfast, we leave Sulhothai riding biker´s paradise roads via the “Columnar Mountains” road R101 to Den Chai, and visit a large reclining Buddha. Then riding through winding mountainous roads to Lampang. Lunch is served at a local restaurant. Visit the Thai elephant conservation center and the world´s first elephant hospital. Continue riding through national parks and farming areas. Visit the local market, stopping for refreshment, before heading back to Chiang Mai.

VISA THAILAND
Most nationalities do not require a visa to enter Thailand for a stay that does not exceed 30 days. However, it is important to note that Thailand’s immigration regulations require that passports must remain valid at least six months beyond visitors’ intended length of stay in Thailand.
Furthermore, it is important to note that Thai Immigration authorities only grant a visa-free stay of a maximum of 15 days in Thailand if tourists enter the country overland (from Laos) rather than through an international airport. Hence, after returning overland from Laos, you will only be allowed a maximum visa-free stay of 15 days in Thailand.

VISA FOR LAOS
For Laos also Visa on arrival is possible, the same as it´s in Thailand. The Visa fee on arrival for Laos is about 40 US$ for 30 days (about 1,200 THB). We will, of course, support you with all the paperwork at the border.

REGISTRATION / DEPOSIT
Due to the cumbersome logistics involved with obtaining all necessary permits and border formalities, we must impose the following conditions for registration of your participation in the tour:

The deadline for the latest registrations is one month before the tour start
Confirmation of your participation in the tour will only be confirmed against the payment of a 10% deposit of the total tour price.
First, come – first served: the date of receipt of your 10% deposit will determine whose participation will be confirmed first. We will not confirm participation in the tour before receipt of your deposit.

We shall guarantee the departure of the tour with a minimum of 4 bikers and shall limit the maximum size of the group to no more than 10 motorcycles.

FULL PREPAYMENT
Because we shall have to fully prepay all suppliers far in advance, we require your full prepayment of the tour (minus the deposit) by the latest one month before the tour start.

CANCELLATION FEES
Please note that the following cancellation fees apply in the case that you are obliged to cancel the reservations for the tour at the last minute:

60 Days to 15 Days 30% of Tour cost
30 Days to 8 Days 50% of Tour cost
14 Days or less 100% of Tour cost

We strongly recommend that you purchase individualized travel and/or medical insurance from any insurance company in your home market to prevent having to incur any unexpected medical or travel expenses.

INSURANCE – THAILAND
The motorcycles carry compulsory third-party insurance according to Thai law but do not carry full comprehensive insurance as this is not available in Thailand for rental motorcycles. The tour participant, therefore, carries the maximum risk of 175.000 THB in case of total damage to his/her motorcycle. The participant is not liable for technical failure in the case of engine or gearbox problems nor for wear and tear.

INSURANCE – LAOS
The motorcycles only carry compulsory third-party insurance for Thailand – not for Laos as our Thai insurance company’s coverage does not extend beyond Thailand. Consequently, the participant carries full risk in case of an accident, regardless of whether the accident is caused by the tour participant or by a third party. Please bear also in mind that in the case of an accident, the adversary will most likely not be carrying any insurance coverage at all. Hence, the tour participant carries the maximum risk of 175.000 THB in case of total damage to his/her motorcycle.

OPTIONAL
Against the surcharge of 10.000 THB, we offer limited comprehensive insurance cover with a maximum liability/participation of 35.000 THB (instead of 175.000 THB) for the participant in case of damage sustained to his/her motorcycle. For minor damage, we will collect the costs for repair at the end of the tour as it is easier to handle such minor cases on the spot. Tour participants who opt for fully comprehensive insurance cover will also have to deposit 35.000 THB in cash at the beginning of the tour.

It is also important to know that the participant is liable for damage caused to his/her motorcycle in the case of an accident caused by a third person. Third-party insurance in Thailand generally only covers bodily harm caused to the third party and does not cover damage caused to the vehicle of a third party.

THAILAND CURRENCY / CREDIT CARDS
American Express, Visa, and Master Card are widely accepted in Thailand. Cash payments are only accepted in Thailand’s own currency (Thai Baht). It is easy to exchange major foreign currencies into Thai Baht as there are official money changers at most tourist places. ATMs can be found almost everywhere. Please do not bring Euro cheques as these can only be cashed at major banks.

LAOS CURRENCY / CREDIT CARDS
The best way to Laos will be to use Thai Bath over there. In Laos, Thai Bath can use and is accepted everywhere. 1 Thai Bath is about 250 KIP. ATMs can be found almost everywhere.
