Day 1. Luang Prabang - Nong Khiaw (145 km.)
After a hearty breakfast and a comprehensive tour briefing, we begin our unforgettable motorcycle adventure through Northern Laos. Leaving Luang Prabang behind, we ride along the legendary Route 13, one of the most scenic motorcycle roads in Laos, known for its sweeping curves, lush jungle landscapes, and authentic rural life.
Our first highlight of the day is a visit to the world-famous Pak Ou Caves, located at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou Rivers. These sacred caves are home to thousands of Buddha statues, carefully placed over centuries by pilgrims and locals. Once used as a refuge during times of conflict, the caves today offer a unique blend of history, spirituality, and breathtaking river views—an essential cultural stop on any Laos motorcycle tour.
After exploring the caves, we continue our ride north along Route 13, enjoying spectacular views of limestone mountains, winding rivers, and traditional Lao villages. This section is a true rider’s paradise, offering a perfect mix of flowing roads and immersive scenery.
By late afternoon, we arrive in the charming riverside town of Nong Khiaw, nestled dramatically between towering karst cliffs along the Nam Ou River. Our carefully selected accommodation offers stunning panoramic views, providing the perfect setting to relax after an incredible day on the road.
Day 2. Nong Khiaw - Muang Hiam (165 km.)
Get ready for one of the most exhilarating riding days of the entire tour. Today we head east along the legendary Route 1C, widely regarded as one of the best motorcycle roads in Laos. This spectacular stretch delivers endless riding pleasure, with a roller-coaster sequence of sweeping curves, tight bends, and perfectly flowing sections that make it a true paradise for riders.
Surrounded by remote mountain landscapes, dense jungle, and breathtaking panoramic viewpoints, this route offers a pure sense of adventure. The region was once known for its wild tigers, adding a sense of mystique to an already unforgettable ride through one of the most untouched parts of Northern Laos.
As we carve our way through thousands of twists and turns, you’ll experience why this road is considered a highlight of any Laos motorcycle tour—technical, scenic, and incredibly rewarding.
By late afternoon, we arrive in the quiet village of Muang Hiam, where a well-deserved highlight awaits. We unwind in the natural hot springs, letting the mineral-rich waters soothe tired muscles after an epic day in the saddle.
Tonight, we stay in a charming local guesthouse, offering an authentic Lao experience in a peaceful setting—perfect to relax, recharge, and share stories from one of the best riding days of the tour.
Day 3. Muang Hiam – Phonsavan (220 km.)
Today is a full and rewarding day in the saddle as we rejoin the legendary Route 1C, continuing our journey south through some of the most remote and scenic regions of Northern Laos. This stretch offers a perfect combination of flowing mountain roads, sweeping valleys, and authentic rural landscapes—making it another standout day for motorcycle enthusiasts.
As we ride deeper into Xieng Khouang Province, the scenery opens up into rolling hills and highland plains, offering a different but equally captivating riding experience compared to previous days.
Our destination is the historic town of Phonsavan, best known as the gateway to the mysterious Plain of Jars, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Laos’ most fascinating archaeological wonders. Scattered across the landscape are thousands of ancient stone jars, some dating back over 2,000 years, whose origins and purpose remain partly unexplained.
We’ll visit the most famous and accessible location, Plain of Jars Site 1, where you can explore these remarkable relics up close while taking in sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. It’s a truly unique cultural highlight that adds depth and intrigue to your Laos motorcycle adventure.

Our destination is the peaceful lakeside town of Viengthong, with a memorable stop in nearby Thalang, a hidden gem known for its tranquil reservoir views. After a full day on the road, there’s no better way to unwind than with a cold drink in hand, watching the sun set over the calm waters—one of those simple but unforgettable travel moments.

INSURANCE – LAOS
The motorcycles only carry compulsory third-party insurance for Laos. Consequently, the participant carries full risk in case of an accident, regardless of whether the accident is caused by the tour participant or by a third party. Please bear also in mind that in the case of an accident, the adversary will most likely not be carrying any insurance coverage at all. Hence, the tour participant carries the maximum risk of 5,000 USD in case of total damage to his/her motorcycle.
OPTIONAL
Against the surcharge of 300 USD, we offer limited comprehensive insurance cover with a maximum liability/participation of 1,000 USD (instead of 5,000 USD) for the participant in case of damage sustained to his/her motorcycle. For minor damage, we will collect the costs for repair at the end of the tour as it is easier to handle such minor cases on the spot. Tour participants who opt for fully comprehensive insurance coverage will also have to deposit 1,000 USD in cash at the beginning of the tour.
It is also important to know that the participant is liable for damage caused to his/her motorcycle in the case of an accident caused by a third person. Third-party insurance in Laos generally only covers bodily harm caused to the third party and does not cover damage caused to the vehicle of a third party.
LAOS CURRENCY / CREDIT CARDS
ATMs are not yet widespread in Laos, and only major hotels and sometimes upcountry accept the most common credit cards such as American Express and Visa. In many places, however, credit cards will not be accepted at all. Hence, it is useful to bring cash in US Dollars, preferably also in small denominations as many shops upcountry cannot easily provide change for a 100-Dollar bill. You may also want to change some foreign currency into Laos Kip (KIP) as the Lao people only trade in their currency. When paying for something small with US Dollars, the change will most likely be rendered in Laos Kip (KIP). This change, in turn, can be used again for buying a drink or for small tips, etc. Bringing traveler cheques is useless as only the Lao Investment, and Commercial Bank (LICB) or the Lao Foreign Trade Bank (LFTB) in Vientiane would trade in these through cumbersome and time-consuming procedures. However, it is now possible to change US Dollars and even Euros and also Thai Baht into local currency at most airports and many other places. We do not recommend changing Laos Kip (KIP) already in your home country!
